The Canadian Committee for World Press Freedom (CCWPF) will hold its 12th annual luncheon at the National Arts Centre at noon on Monday, May 3rd, on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day.
Moderated by the CBC’s Don Newman, the feature speaker is Maziar Bahari, a Canadian-Iranian reporter for Newsweek who was imprisoned and harshly interrogated for four months in 2009. His speech is “Press Freedom in chains: the saga of a Canadian journalist’s ordeal in Iran”
The CCWPF’s annual free expression award will be presented along with the award for the 10th International Cartoon Competition on the theme of “The ‘right’ not to be offended is not a right. ” Cartoons will be exhibited.
