Cartoons 2013 Winners

Winners of the 2013 Cartoon competition of the Canadian Committee for World Press Freedom (CCWPF).

The theme for the 13th International Editorial Cartoon Competition is: Hard times and free speech

When journalists and cartoonist face economic uncertainty or threats to their employment, there is great pressure to give up on tackling tough stories, give in to self-censorship or give attention to sensationalist journalism in the service of commercial sustainability. But can free speech survive hard times?

As a condition of this competition, the cartoon creators grant the CCWPF and media outlets the right to publish them on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day and in support of its free speech principles. Credit to the creator and to the International Editorial Cartoon Competition of the Canadian Committee for World Press Freedom (CCWPF) is required.
